Cross-docking

Freight that only needs to change trucks should not pay to spend a week on a rack.

Cross-docking: E.B. Transportation Service

Cross-docking is the shortest path through a warehouse. The inbound truck unloads, the freight is sorted by destination, and it leaves on the next truck out, usually the same day. No put-away, no storage line on the invoice, and no extra touches inviting damage.

It is the right tool when freight is already sold and routed: retail deliveries splitting to stores, LTL shipments consolidating into a full truck, or a late trailer that has to be reworked and gone before the morning.

Freight that should cross-dock

  • Loads splitting into several South Florida deliveries
  • LTL freight consolidating into one outbound truck
  • A missed delivery that has to be reworked and resent
  • Retail or project freight on a fixed delivery date
  • Anything already sold that just needs a truck change

What we do on the dock

  • Unload and count the inbound
  • Sort by destination, order or stop
  • Stage each outbound at its own door
  • Reload, seal and document
  • Hand you the paperwork trail for every piece

Common questions

What if the outbound truck is late?

The freight waits on the dock, or slides into short-term storage at the daily rate, whichever you prefer. It does not sit in a trailer at a fuel island somewhere.

Do you handle the outbound trucking?

In South Florida, yes, on our own equipment. Beyond that we load whichever carrier you route.

How much notice do you need?

A day is comfortable. Same-day is often possible for palletized freight if you call in the morning, and we will tell you honestly on the phone which one you are looking at.
