Container storage

Somewhere for the box itself to sit, close to the port it came from and the one it goes back to.

Container storage: E.B. Transportation Service

Storing a container is a different question from storing what is inside it. Our yard runs to about five acres, which is the part that matters: Sometimes the cargo cannot be received yet, sometimes the receiver has no room, and sometimes the box simply has to wait somewhere that is not a terminal charging by the day. Yard space near the port answers all three, and the container stays sealed and yours until you say otherwise.

Because we run drayage too, the box does not need a second company to move. The same operation that pulled it from the terminal can hold it, deliver it when the receiver is ready, and take the empty back, which is one contact and one invoice instead of a handoff with a gap in the middle.

When a container needs a yard

  • The receiver is not ready and terminal storage is running
  • You are holding loaded boxes between arrival and delivery
  • An empty is waiting on a return appointment or a street turn
  • Seasonal inventory is easier to keep in the box than to unload
  • A project ships in containers that arrive faster than they install

How it works

  • The box is pulled and yarded, on chassis or grounded
  • Seals checked and recorded on arrival
  • Held as long as you need, billed by the day or the week
  • Delivered when your receiver is ready
  • Empty returned to the terminal or street-turned

Common questions

Loaded or empty?

Both. Loaded boxes are kept sealed with the seal number recorded, and empties are held until a return appointment or a street turn makes sense.

Can you deliver it later?

Yes, that is usually the point. We run our own drayage, so the same operation that yarded the box delivers it when your receiver is finally ready, without a second carrier in the middle.

Is per-diem still running while it sits with me?

That depends on your carrier's free time and the equipment, not on us, so ask us to check the specifics of your booking. What yarding does reliably avoid is terminal storage, which is usually the more expensive of the two clocks.
